Rashid Rana creatively uses photography to convey cultural, social and physical realities in his exhibition Everything Is Happening At Once.
At a distance this building looks like a large tapestry, whilst actually it has been formed from a series of images ‘digitally stitched’ together. These photographs, taken of the same site over 24 hours, create a realistic and tonal depiction in which passing time has been preserved for the viewer to experience. Overall the composition features a series of paradox: combining small and large scales, wholeness yet fragmentation, time versus space.

Again, thousands of micro images form a larger work which resembles an abstract painting. Rana has photographed fragments of text across the city of Lahore, including signs, posters and advertisements. I love the complex colour palette, as a wide variety of shades are introduced in small square sections yet they work well together overall.
