Special Collections: Artist Books

Helen Douglas documents the beauty of a place in her collection “A Venetian Brocade”. These photographic collages appear realistic with a magical atmosphere due to the juxtaposition of different viewpoints, architecture, scenery and cultural motifs. This creates intricate scenes with lots of depth, with pattern featured as attractive borders and swirling designs over the rigid building structures.

Images from Artists Book

Architectural motifs from stain glass windows and decorative arches have been layered and repeated so they appear in both the foreground and background. Complex patterns are viewed through simple forms and silhouetted shapes.
