Future everything: ‘Handmade’,Victoria Baths

“Soundwear” by Hanna Nielson were my favourite objects displayed at this event. Her collection of four sound-making hats were playful and interactive, expressing ideas of communication between people, personal space, and how we all experience reality in different ways. Each hat is a separate colour and makes a different, interesting sound to convey a type of personality. The connections between these elements are very clever and creative, and I love how the hats are meaningful yet also an experience for both the wearer and viewer.

The green character is an introverted shy person, playing a melody to themselves on the stringed instruments at the side.

The red character is an authoritative leader figure, with a hat that makes a firm ‘flip’ sound to attract attention from others.

The blue character is concerned with pleasing others, playing a tune from a music box to entertain viewers.

The yellow character is a fun, networking person who engages other people by making an electronic sound through moving the ‘slinkies’ which the viewer can listen to.
