"Up there in the air", Louise Baldwin

It was very inspirational to see contemporary textile artist’s work. 

Several highlights from the show:

 

Louise Baldwin uses found fabrics collaged with hand and machine stitch, method and techniques I often employ.  

  

"Standard Squares Set", Pippa Andrews

Graduate Work

These 3D constructed pieces utilise simple shapes and perspectives in an interesting way through repetition and joining together multiples. Pippa Andrew’s creates structures with intersecting lines and spaces which cast shadows onto the wall behind, providing another transitory level to her work. 

"Ready Steady Go", Jane Mckeating

Jane Mckeating combines print and stitch, two areas which I am interested in. The vivid colours alongside her fun and quirky hand-drawn designs are eye-catching, which make them very appealing as ties. I love the delicate, smart material used and how sheer fabrics have been layer to create a complex, sophisticated design. They were presented artistically as decorative objects, the long lengths of material coiled and entwined.

"Way of Roses",Severija

Severija’s work is distinctive as she has stitched onto a large metal door, transforming this functional everyday object into an ornamental piece of art. Two diverse elements have been combined: the rusted metal object and attractive floral motif, created using a traditional hand-stitch technique. Yet using corresponding colours means these separate components fit simultaneously together.
