Archive Sample

Elements of the original sample have been inverted to create new designs:

• Diamonds surround the flowers instead of flowers surrounding the diamonds.
• More emphasis is given to the diamond shapes: there are more diamonds than flowers
• Simple diamond is transformed into a complex pattern with many small shapes
• Flowers minimal, enlarged and positioned at central points in the design so they stand out

Main Sample

 

 

The original print is transformed into a textured embroidery, which still has a neat and precise quality due to the careful lines and satin-stitch edging. Soft, tactile flowers were formed using a variety of thick yarns on the Cording Cornelly, with French knots adding finer detail. They distinctly contrast the angular diamond shapes, which are outlined subtly with glitter thread to convey the glistening surface of a jewel.

Development Samples

 

Experimenting reversing colour proportions by making yellow the main background colour with touches of blue. This provides a subtle, delicate surrounding to the bold motif which is complemented by the embossed circle pattern. However I preferred the original use of colours since the mid-blue creates a flow between colours which is less harsh and striking.
