Colour: Institute for Sound and Vision, Hilversum, the Netherlands
Over two thousand panes of coloured glass are established as a second
layer around the building. These have been engraved with more than 750 famous
archive images from the institute’s television and film collection. I love the
intense primary shades used as these merge together to form a blur of different
colours. These glow vividly with natural light, turning the building into a
work of art.

Pattern: John Lewis Department Store, Leicester
This store appears to be wrapped in patterned fabric, with ornate and
elaborate swirls over the smooth surface creating a decorative facade. The
double layer of glass acts like a net curtain: inside the pattern lines up
exactly so customers can see out, yet when viewed from an angle outside it becomes
almost opaque. A stainless steel design looks effective since it mirrors the
reflective quality of the glass, creating a surface radiating with light. |
