Textiles in Practice ‘Living it’ Screening

My work was displayed on the corridor screen (exterior of MMU’s Mable Tylecote building) which is visible to those quickly passing by. The digital format looked professional although I would have preferred the actual work being presented as well so people could view it first-hand and close-up. This would offer a clear idea of the fabric, design and finer details which are all important in textile pieces. Several of my photographs were portrait and did not fill the widescreen, therefore appearing less impressive or striking as a larger image. To resolve this I could have photographed my work differently so it was a suitable size, or combined two prints to create a landscape image.

20/20 Secret Garden MCR

Starting Point - Explanation of Work

The group 20/20 is a collaboration of two interior design and two fashion students who aimed to make Manchester’s Northern Quarter a green place whilst bringing the community together. To achieve this, 20/20 planted watering cans around the area which formed a trail leading to their secret garden. The decorated watering cans looked charming hanging from traffic lights and shop doorways, as the blossoming flowers and ornate writing contrasted the city location.  Their Garden installation was a homely and relaxed place to socialise, with the hand-painted butterflies and toadstool seats adding a touch of nature whilst creating a magical and enchanting atmosphere.
