Design Brief: Create a design that will capture the excitement of being a student at MMU. It must appeal to potential new students as the bag will be used to promote the university.
Other Requirements: Use only two colours, black and blue, to correspond with the MMU Logo, and ensure the design fits within an area of 27cm x 30cm.

Artwork Statement: My designs are detailed and complex
to reflect the busy, vibrant city, with bold dynamic shapes to convey
the excitement of being a student at MMU. The circular,
decorative motifs were inspired by textile machinery at MOSI with a
strong connection to the Industrial Revolution which began in
Manchester. The idea of lots of small mechanisms working together to
produce an outcome symbolises
university life, where people cooperate, support each other and learn together in order to succeed.
I was also inspired by the
university buildings: The new, modern art school and business school
influenced the clear-cut geometric shapes, whereas the curved, floral
motifs originate from historic architecture such
as the Grosvenor building entrance.
