Series 1
Ink Pens, Metallic Sharpies, Reflective
Card.
My first designs focus on the different shapes
of machine parts and how individual components connect together to make a
whole. The simple metallic colours are bold and graphic, enhanced by cut-out areas
of silver card which adds an attractive shine when it catches the light.
Series 2
Inks,, Metallic Sharpies, Ink Pens
Coloured Pencils, Sequins, Embroidery Thread.
These designs are more complicated, combining
circular motifs and long straight lines which look very dynamic as they contrast
each other. The red background colour symbolises revolution, and is successful alongside
the black since it feels powerful and compelling which portrays the dramatic industrial
change occurring. Furthermore, I like how the threads and sequins enhance the
flat surface design.
Series 3
Inks, Metallic Sharpies, Ink Pens,
Coloured
Pencils, Mixed-Media relief, Embellishments.
These pieces feature a gradual transition
of colour from green to blue to purple. The inked background adds a sense of
energy and movement to the rigid design. I should have placed the motifs in a
larger area with more space around them as the design is overcrowded. However
it shows the complexity of textile machinery and their multiple layered parts. I
built up a textured surface using acrylic gel with details formed by
imprinting, engraving and adhering different materials.
